REPORT ON REFLECTIVE JOURNAL

 Reflective Journal.

      The first phase of the teaching practice actually contains face to face teaching of 40 lessons. But this year, due to the COVID pandemic, the school internship programme was divided into 10 lessons for peer teaching, ten lessons for face-to-face online teaching, 15 VICTERS class observations and the development of 5 video/e- content lessons. We all missed the regular school internship in this pandemic situation. The peer teaching and face to face teaching were in online mode with the support of science and technology.

Peer teaching.

       We got an opportunity for peer teaching on online mode. Our peer teaching started from 16-11-2020 onwards. Due to the tight time schedule, we finished the peer teaching lessons by taking 3 classes per day. After establishing a good rapport with the peers, I entered into the topic Tissue culture, Different types of tissues plant tissue and animal tissues. I taught the concept with the help of ICT and through activities. Finally, I made a good review from my peer understanding and follow up activities were given. Last day I took class with all optional students and it was a wonderful experience to me and I got an opportunity to observe the different methods adopted by other student teachers for the successful completion of the classes.

        From the peer teaching I was able to achieve all my objectives. The strengths of my teaching were my audible sound, activities, proper and efficient use of blackboard. I improved my language, mode of presentation and proper adjustment of phone from peer and teacher evaluation. Over all, we all made the peer teaching as an unforgettable teaching experience through online mode as we were able to overcome the fears of using online mode of teaching. We were anxious about the online method, but after the first class, we came to rectify the mistakes in using phone, board, lighting etc. and from next day onwards we were in a comfortable state to proceed with the classes. Peer teaching made us confident in handling the face-to-face online teaching.  

Face-to–face teaching.

        We got an opportunity for face-to-face teaching on online mode. Me got the students of VIII standard from Holy family convent school for the training programme. Classes were conducted through Google meet . Our teaching practice started from 23-11-2020 onwards. As per schedule me started my first class in VIII. At 10.00 am onwards class started. The class duration is 45 minutes 7students are in VIII standards. We created a WhatsApp group and added all 7 students and their class teacher and every day we sent the Google meet link through the WhatsApp group. I took biodiversity and it’s threats through pictorial representation videos comparison of depletion in biodiversity.

          I introduced each concept in a systematic way and helped them to easily catch up the concepts. The activities, photo and video presentation on online arouses interest in students in the learning process. I am so confident in teaching and helped them to increase level of understanding. I achieved all my goals. The improvement from peer teaching helped me to overcome the technical problems occurred in face-to-face teaching. Within 2 weeks I completed my teaching practice. Along with the teaching, I conducted the conscientization programme on “ biodiversity conservation "

        First time be a teacher in online platform was equally challenging and provided a good experience. I improved from all my weaknesses and avoided minute mistakes that happens during the teaching process. A group of attentive students was the main factor behind the success of the face-to-face online teaching. This experience boosted our confidence as we are capable of taking classes in the online and offline mode equally.   

Victors class observation. A

fter completing our peer and face-to-face teaching we started to write 15 victors lesson plans after observing the classes. We selected standard VIII and IX. The teachers were Sree Lekha Devi and Shaji Mathew. Observing the classes of these teachers helped us to improve our teaching mode and encouraged us in going to the details of every points. Their mode of teaching, delivery of content, models and activities presented, reinforcement etc. are in clear and accurate manner. The teachers were talented and experienced ones. The use of blackboard and stimulus variation of teachers was limited. Instead, of that they used ICT. It was another remarkable experience that we met during the period of teaching practice.


E-content/ Video lessons.


After the three processes, we were supposed to take 5 e-content/ video lessons. I chose E- content and prepared 5 e-contents and published it in the YouTube. I selected the standard IX units. With the help of photos, videos I made power presentation and recorded the class with an app X-Recorder. After editing it by adding background music and text, uploaded it in the YouTube. This helped us to be a techno pedagogue.


From the teaching practice I understood it was difficult to be a teacher and I am ready to struggle to overcome all the difficulties and challenges to become a teacher.
