CONSCIENTIZATION PROGRAM

 Introduction

Conscientization is a popular education and social concept developed by Brazilian pedagogue and educational theorist Paulo Freire, grounded in post-Marxist critical theory. Critical consciousness focuses on achieving an in-depth understanding of the world, allowing for the perception and exposure of social and political contradictions. Critical consciousness also includes taking action against the oppressive elements in one’s life that are illuminated by that understanding.                  As a part of B.Ed curriculum a conscientization class was conducted to students of Holy family convent school Aravila through online platform Google meet on November 27 ,2020. The topic selected for the programme was "biodiversity conservation”. Additional research is also needed for an effective conscientization programme.

Objectives

• To make students aware about the health issues of junk foods.

• To develop a awareness program to compare junk food and healthy food .

Procedure

As part of the B Ed curriculum , we were asked to conduct a conscientization programme during our online teaching practice. We seek the permission from the school authority for conducting the conscientization programme. On 27 Nov 2020 , we conducted an awareness on the topic' biodiversity conservation'. The programme was started at 12.00 PM ,10 students from 8 standard participated in the programme via Google meet.

The programme was started a power point presentation . It includes the importance of biodiversity and need of conserve it . The students listened the class eagerly and attentively .

Conclusion

It’s important to understand that high school students are at a critical age where they are looking to form their own opinions about the world around them. After the conscientization program students got an idea about biodiversity and the need of conserving it.
